I'd be the worst freebie blogger ever if I didn't write about this week, because I scored.
After the last blog, it's probably important to note that I am still in school. Turns out, I'll be at BYU until 2015. Then law school until 2018. Unless I put my newly learned entrepreneur skills to work and start a non-profit focused on people give me free stuff. That's my only way out.
Actually, this week, I was rewarded with free J-Dawgs for my hard work and good grade in Accounting 200. I got an email* for an "invitation-only" accounting-as-a-major seminar. Unfortunately, the event started at 5:30, and I have class on Thursdays until 6:15. Fortunately, they gave out J-dawgs at 6:15. So, if A=B, and B=C, you can figure out that I missed the whole seminar, but made it in time for the important part. And you can also infer that I am seriously considering changing my major to accounting despite missing the part where they told us all the reasons we should. Actions speak louder than words. The chemistry department hasn't given me anything. Freeloader? Yes. Gutless Flip-Flopper? If the price--or lack thereof--is right.
On Tuesday I had free pizza for lunch because I went to an event I heard about in an email.* Before that I got free mint cocoa and a brownie just for walking the smart route to dance class. I also went to a Pre-Law Club meeting that night where they had free pizza while we watched the election results.
If you are a little confused, I am officially a chem major, but I am planning on a business management major instead. And I actually do want to go to law school.
The sad news of the week is that I could have had free J-Dawgs a different time, except it was right in the middle of class. It was the Student Innovator of the Year event, but I had to miss my chance for the hot dogs and a free iPad. Too bad, because I was feeling lucky.

Entrepreneur? ...Why Yes, Of Course!
I found this one today, I realized I never finished it. This happened in October.
Here's an important strategy for getting free stuff. Sign up for emails from different groups around campus. Sure, you'll get annoyed now and again by the flood you call your inbox, but it pays off. And if any one group is getting really annoying, you can easily remove yourself from the mailing list.
Anyway, this week I got an email from one of the organizations targeting business majors. They said they were having a special seminar spotlighting some successful BYU alumni... sort of--they all dropped out once their ideas starting taking off...
Business actually really interests me, but I might not have gone to the event because I had a busy day. What tipped the scale was the note at the end of the email. "Free pizza!" And a little below that, "First 100 students get a free t-shirt." Boom. Done. I went. I conquered. I left early and still convinced them to give me pizza. And now I'm dropping out of school. But I have a free t-shirt for every day of the week so I'll be fine.

Choose 2 Give. Or just take for free.
The silence was broken today! I was sitting in the Wilk eating lunch, and I heard "free shirts!" so I went running. It turned out that I had to participate in a challenge to get it, but I wasn't going to let passing a Froot Loop from a spoon hanging outside my mouth to the spoon right next to another guy's mouth stop me. I embraced said challenge. In fact, I won said challenge. The shirts were for a non-profit called Choose 2 Give (C2G) organized by BYU students. Normally, you have to donate money to get their stuff, but they must have heard I was in the Wilk yesterday so they gave the shirts away for free.
Since my last post I got a free licorice at the Study Abroad Fair, and a text notifying me of $1,000 free to BestBuy if I'd just submit my social security number and credit card information online. So I did.

Introduction
I love free stuff. I also love BYU.
The first thing you should know is that if you are looking, you can get something free basically every single day at campus. I just started my second semester, but I feel like I have already exploited the secrets of happiness at BYU.
My favorite freebies are free t-shirts. Last week, I was walking to the Wilkinson Student Center (Wilk), when I spotted sure opportunity. A dunk tank was set up by the women's soccer team. You had to kick a soccer ball and hit the trigger that would send one of the team members plunging into the cold water. If you got 2/2, your name was put in a drawing for an iPad, 1/2 was a free I (Heart) BYU t-shirt. I got 1/2. But I fooled the system. I actually missed the red button, but I kicked the ball hard enough into the lever that the seat still dropped. For a moment, there was a hesitation from the sponsors, because, technically, I missed. But I didn't wait around for someone to contend my getting a free shirt. Think hit-and-run.
A few days ago I got a free J-Dawgs hot dog. If you don't know what that means, come to Provo. Everybody around campus loves J-Dawgs. I just did something about my love. It's not like it was really a sacrifice, I just paid attention. There are always little flyers around information desks. This flyer was for a back-to-school party. It said the first 500 students would get free J-Dawgs. I had to punch a couple kids in the face, but I managed first 500.
Sometimes the little freebies are exactly what you need. Just walk into the Wilk around lunchtime and you are bound to end up with a Laffy Taffy or Tootsie Roll.
I doubt you're wondering why I am taking the time for this blog because it should be obvious. But if you think this is a waste of time, well, my only guess is you have something against doughnuts. That's what I said. Doughtnuts. Free. I had one last week. You just have to keep your eyes open. They were glazed. Not my eyes--the doughnuts!
If that hasn't answered your questions, think gigantic snickerdoodles. I mean face-sized. I have had my share of cookies at BYU, from chocolate chip to royal blue sugar cookies. Same with free BYU Creamery ice cream, free haircuts, Jamba Juice. I even got a free scarf last semester. Who doesn't love a handsome scarf?
